When I was a teenager my mom sent me to therapy for the first time. The therapist determined that I really needed to lean into creative self expression. Although, I had been a huge fan of art, photography, drawing and music; I wasn’t creating myself. One day she sent me home with an assignment; to create a collage that represents me. Up until that point most of my art was black and white. To my surprise the collage I created was bright, bold and bursting with vibrant/neon colors.

Through this assignment, I discovered my love for creating collages, utilizing magazine cutouts. I was a huge fan of magazines growing up, so much so that after college (Art/Design School) I set my sights on moving to Australia to pursue becoming a magazine Editor. I went as far as taking the academic tests to get my visa to move, until a last minute call from The Universe sent me in a different direction. My love for collage’s however, remained.

After learning digital art techniques, my collages evolved. I started painting when I was a kid; with a love and fascination for an array of media, I started combining them.

Ethereal Magik’s base layer is actually a live painting, that went through its own transformation. Single, and living in Vail Colorado, I picked up this black and white three panel.

For Arrayah’s 5th birthday, we decided to give it a makeover and hang it up in her room.

and then…

this, became…
